We’ve lived and worked in Malawi since 2019 and in that time got the chance to connect with numerous people, projects and organisations. These are just a few of the ones with which we’ve formed a stronger connection.
In July 2022 Gary took up a new role at the CCAP General Assembly. As Capacity Development Facilitator, his role involves supporting the leadership of the General Assembly, Synods and Departments in their efforts to develop the strength and stability of the church’s institutions.
Flood Church Mzuzu exists to bring upcoming generations to live in the freedom of Jesus Christ. While Gary is working with and maintaining strong relational links with CCAP, as a family we found our church home at Flood when the church plant began in 2021. Gary is now part of the Oversight and Teaching teams, we host a weekly Growth Group bible study and are involved in various other ways. It has been exciting to be part of this young and growing gathering, reaching out to a generation that is becoming increasingly alienated from church.
Mzuzu Family Training Centre aims to offer support to families and guardians of motherless babies. Rather than the baby being cared for in an institution, the Centre offers training, spiritual support and practical supplies so that the child can remain with the family in the home environment. The Centre is a new initiative building on the work of the former Mzuzu Crisis Nursery. Jacqueline is supporting Anna, the local manager, with financial management and administration.
Health in Motion (HiM) is a model of low back injury prevention and physical rehabilitation for rural communities. The long hours of daily physical labor for farming and household tasks can lead to back injury and chronic pain for many in Malawi’s rural population. The resulting loss of income and caring responsibilities affect the entire household. Through HiM, community volunteers are trained in injury prevention methods, as well as how to improve the mobility of those who are bed-ridden. HiM is led by Christa, a Canadian missionary and massage therapist, along with her local team. Jacqueline has supported Christa’s work by editing a new training manual and assisting with developing initiatives to make Health in Motion accessible to rural communities across Malawi.
